Hello ji,

I use a regular Canon point-and-shoot digital camera (for photos) to take video.
The mic on it is quite sensitive.

the Twang is due to the mic picking up the vibrations from the sympathetic strings as Im sitting quite close to it.

No amplification

In your videos, I noticed that you DO NOT have TAR SHEHNAI attachment, yet the sound coming across is quite loud and clear and sometimes with a SHEHNAI twang. Perhaps this is because of a sound amplification device. If such is the case, please let me know the Make / Model etc.

Hello Manav Jee:
I have practised the Meend & other exercises and am able to play them fairly well.

I can play a few lines of “Kesariya” as well. I think you are playing with a TAR Shehnai (Sound Box), which I do not have, hence the sound is quite different, which is perhaps why I am not catching the sequence of notes.

What I am hearing in the initial play is:
.N R G P
D S. N D (MEEND D – S., N , D)
P N D P (MEEND P – N, D, P)
.N R G P
D P P P
THERE IS A REVERSE MEEND THEREAFTER….I THINK

I would really appreciate if you could NOTATE the following for me:
1. Sthai or Gut
2. Antara
3. Atleast one Taan

Followed your suggestion. I now have a Violin Bow, and the sound is MUCH BETTER

Hello ji,
That’s REALLY hard to explain.

Basically how I was taught is – “Do all the practice exercises (including the meends) until you’re familiar with them enough to be able to catch someone doing them when you listen to them play – and then just play along”

I can tell you that it’s all shudh notes , plus a ni komal embellishment sometimes.

You’re going to have to keep listening and keep trying.

It’ll take me a couple of hours at least to listen and type out the notations.
If you REALLY need them , let me know – I’ll try. ( but I’m really bad at it )
